Quotes

The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise — with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.

Abraham Lincoln

The Graham Barker Rotary Award for Young People

rotary_wheel_transp

The late Graham Barker was a well-known local businessman and a highly esteemed member of the Rotary Club of Uttoxeter for 33 years. Graham was always very supportive of any charitable giving which benefited young people, especially in the Uttoxeter area.

It is the wish of both the family and the Rotary Club of Uttoxeter that monies given in his memory should be used to benefit young people. It has therefore been decided that an annual Graham Barker Rotary Award for Young People will be given as follows:

1) the competition will be open to all young people who are aged 14 to 18 years on the 31st December 2009 and who live or go to school within an area of seven miles from Uttoxeter.

2) each young person or their nominee will be asked to say in not more than 500 words what the young person has done to benefit the community through charitable, sporting, social or other ways.

3) nomination forms may be obtained from the Uttoxeter Town Hall and will also be included in the Uttoxeter Advertiser and the Post and Times, or contact Rotarian Terry Davies directly ( see below )

4) the closing date for nominations will be 7th February 2010

5) a prize of £200 will be given to the nominee who the judges feel has benefited the community the most

6) the judges will be:
                                         the Mayor of Uttoxeter
                                         Mrs Jamila Barker
The President of the Rotary Club of Uttoxeter
                                         Representatives of the Uttoxeter Advertiser
                                          and the Post and Times

7) a reception will be held at the Uttoxeter Town Hall, on Tuesday 16th March at 7.30pm, to include the five finalists and the winner will be then announced.
