Evidence of Medieval Strip Farming in Uttoxeter
In my younger days I played footaball on the pitch at the top of the Bramshall Road "Rec" ( now long gone ) and I noticed that further down the hill the mown area was strangely undulated and bumpy.
I thought no more of this until one day in a VERY hot & dry summer ( some years ago obviously ) I was walking my dog in the park and realised that the undulations were in fact the visible remains of some medieval strip fields.
